11月21日（金）、KOMATSUの佐藤太一（さとう・たいち）様に Japan Corner をご訪問いただきました。日本語学習者たちによるKOMATSUに関する発表をご覧いただき、発表後には学生に対して、「1日や2日で準備できる内容ではない。準備の努力が伝わってきて、心から感動しました」という温かいお言葉をいただきました。
さらに、その後の質疑応答では、多岐にわたる学生からの質問にも丁寧にお答えくださいました。

特に話題となったのは、2025年8月にKOMATSUが発表した、西アフリカの人材育成トレーニングセンター構想に関する質問でした。
佐藤様からは、「建設機械の使い方や修理方法を正しく学び、実践できる人材を育成することで、本来は30年使える建設機械が、5年や10年で壊れてしまうという現状を改善し、より良い社会づくりにつなげたい」というお話があり、学生たちは大変興味深く耳を傾けていました。

参加学生からは、「自分たちが使う物を大切にし、長く使えるように丁寧に扱うという日本人の精神を学んだ。建設機械に限らず、日常の物にもその姿勢を大切にしたい」といった感想も聞こえてきました。

Japan Cornerでは、今後も文化授業の一環として日本企業研究を継続し、日本人ゲストの方々から直接お話を伺える機会を設け、日本の考え方や価値観に触れられる場を積極的につくってまいります。



ENGLISH VERSION

On Friday, November 21st, we had the honor of welcoming Mr. Taichi Sato from KOMATSU to the Japan Corner. He observed presentations about KOMATSU given by our Japanese language learners, and after listening to them, he kindly said:
“This is not something you can prepare in just one or two days.
I could clearly see the effort behind the work, and I was truly moved.”

During the Q&A session that followed, he also answered a wide range of student questions with great care and sincerity.

One of the main topics was a question about KOMATSU’s plan to establish a Human Resource Training Center in West Africa, which was announced in August 2025.
Mr. Sato explained:
“By training people who can properly learn and practice the correct use and repair of construction machinery,
we aim to solve the current problem where machines that should last for 30 years sometimes break down in only 5 or 10 years.
Through this, we hope to contribute to building a better society.”

The students listened with great interest. Some of them shared the following impressions:
“We learned the Japanese spirit of taking good care of the things we use, so that they can last for a long time.
This attitude should be applied not only to construction machinery, but also to everyday objects in our daily lives.”

At the Japan Corner, we will continue to conduct research on Japanese companies as part of our cultural education program.
By inviting Japanese guests and giving students the chance to speak directly with them, we aim to create valuable opportunities to learn about Japanese ways of thinking and cultural values.
